The artist studied at the Düsseldorf Academy from 1918 to 1921 and was a member of the artist groups "Das Junge Rheinland" and "Die Rheinische Sezession". The artist received several awards, including the Albrecht Dürer Prize in 1937 and the Cornelius Prize from the city of Düsseldorf in 1941. The artist participated in collective and individual exhibitions, such as the 1958 exhibition at the Galerie Vömel in Düsseldorf and a special exhibition in 2001 at the Städt. Wasserburg Museum.
